Characteristics and Pricing for Fiberglass Panels

Panel Colors and Light Transmission

Corrugated and flat fiberglass panels are available in various opaque (no light transmission) or translucent colors. Translucent panels transmit different amounts of light depending upon their color. For example, frost clear panels transmit 93% light, while white panels have a 55% light transmittance.

Panel Weights and Thickness

Panels are commonly identified by weight (oz = ounces per square foot of panel) i.e. 4oz, 5oz, 6oz, 8oz, 12oz, 16oz. The thickness of panels is proportional to weight. The heavier the panel, the thicker it is. For example: a flat 5oz panel is .040" thick, an 8oz panel is .060" thick (1/16") while a 12oz panel is .090" thick. Corrugated panels will be slightly thinner for any given weight.

Panel sizes

Corrugated Panels (click here to enter our corrugation library):

Panel widths range from 26" (24" net coverage) to 52 5/8" (48"net)
(Panel width will vary depending upon the particular corrugation)
Common available lengths are 8', 10' and 12'

Translucent Flat Panels:

range from 4' or 5' wide x any length

Opaque Flat Panels:

4' wide x 8', 10' and 12' long

Panel Characteristics

In addition to the corrugation, weight, color and degree of light transmission, panels may have other characteristics. Most panels are manufactured with a general-purpose, polyester resin imbedded with chopped strand fiberglass matt. Certain additives may be placed in the panels. Chemicals can be added to make them fire retardant. Panels can be acrylic modified for additional clarity. Woven rovings rather than chopped matt can be used to enhance strength.

Panel Prices

In general, prices of panels with identical characteristics are proportional to weight. The heavier the panel, the more expensive. Price will also depend upon the particular panel characteristics, quantity of panels, corrugation, availability, etc. For this reason, it is impossible for us to provide you with a price list. We have found that no two jobs are exactly alike and that in order to find you "the right panel at the right price," a brief discussion with our experienced sales staff is recommended.
